Case Study

Objective

My team was responsible the steps a seller takes to put their music gear up for sale. Users consistently stated that shipping was the biggest factor deterring them from selling on Reverb. Our goal was to streamline decision making around shipping and fix this blocker.

How? By taking years of Reverb's package data and leveraging it in brand new way.

Process

A project of this complexity required a lot of discovery. My product manager and I were meeting early and often with collaborators from analytics, and long-time Reverb engineers who had familiarity with this data. Once I really understood what sort of data we were working with, I began wireframing and exploring how we could apply it to shipping step of the sell flow.

Alongside this core design problem, I knew there was more we could do while we were here. The UX was clunky, the progressive disclosure was jarring, and users were left to fend for themselves when came to box dimensions and shipping companies.

Finding a solution that touched on all of these problems took a lot of back and forth. Design exploration reached far and wide, sometimes taking me to some pretty ambitious directions all things considered. In the end (as is often the case), I found my way to an answer that stuck the landing in a tight, contained package.

Outcome

We launched a successful experiment that touched up every aspect of the shipping page. Copywriting, design patterns, and user flows all received much needed improvements, and at the center of it all was our new shipping integration.

Before, sellers dreaded this step of the sell flow.

Now? Give our dynamically applied shipping recommendations a look. Everything good? We know, let's hit continue and move on to the next step.

Standout Features

  • Automated shipping recommendations
